Our Process

At MoJo Design Inc. it is important for our clients to know the process of how we work.  The following will outline the three phases we follow.


Discovery Call

  • We offer a free 30-minute phone call with Maureen & Johanne to discuss your design needs.

  • The initial call is an opportunity for you to get to know MoJo Design and determine whether we are the right fit for your project. 

  • Overall, the key to a successful initial discovery call is to be clear about your goals and objectives, and to communicate openly and honestly with us about your vision for the project.  Are you looking to create a cozy and comfortable home?  Do you want to focus on creating a functional workspace?  By having a clear understanding of your expectations, you can help us understand your needs and preferences.

  • What do you plan to invest in your project?  Design projects can vary greatly in cost, depending on the scope and complexity of the work. Discussing your budget with us during this Discovery Call can help to avoid any misunderstandings later.

  • What is your timeline?

  • Share your inspiration: Do you have any photos/Houzz account/Pinterest boards that inspire you?  Share these with us, so we can get a sense of your style and preferences.

  • Once we have established your needs, we can book an initial consultation to get your project started.


Initial Consultation – in the home/business

  • Our design service starts as soon as you book an initial consultation.  The investment for an Initial Consultation is $250 + GST.  This is where we will spend up to 1.5 hours with you to learn all about you and how we can design your dream space.

  • All decision makers need to be present at this consultation.

  • We will use this time to get to know you, design is a personal experience and its important for us to know how you live in your space.  We will look at the overall home or business room by room.

  • We will discuss in detail the goals, budget, style preferences, design challenges and any functional requirements you have for the space.

  • We will provide feedback and suggestions based on our expertise.

  • We will take photos and measurements.

  • The goal of this Initial Consultation is to get a sense of the scope of the project and to establish a working relationship between us.  We will have a good understanding of your needs and where we can help.  We will then be able to provide the best solutions to move your project forward.

  • You will see exactly what it will be like working with us as we provide you with real value and expertise to move your project forward.

  • We will share our Letter of Agreement and go through it in detail so there are no surprises.

  • After the Letter of Agreement is signed and the retainer is paid, we can move onto the next phase in the design process.


Research, Design and Presentation

  • For the Research Phase, all aspects of the space are considered.  This would include its architecture, lighting, colour scheme, condition, looking at any existing floor plans/blueprints, traffic flow from one room to another and changes to the function of the space. This will help us develop a design direction for you.

  • In the Design Phase, we use the information gathered to create a conceptual design plan that meets your needs and preferences.  This will include floor plans and 3D renderings to help you visualize the final design.  We will select materials, finishes, furniture, and accessories that compliment the design.

  • The Presentation Phase is where we will present the design plan to you.  This will include the 3D renderings and drawings (if applicable), a detailed product spec sheet, samples of the materials and finishes (where available), a tentative timeline, and a breakdown of the budget.  We will work with you to finalize any details and make any necessary revisions before moving forward with the implementation phase.


Overall, each part of phase 2 is critical to the success of the project, and we carefully manage each part to ensure that the end result meets your needs and exceeds your expectations.


The physical work begins

  • MoJo Design can manage your project from start to finish, we work with professional, dedicated trades that we trust and have worked with for many years.  We are dedicated in working together to provide you with a high quality, comfortable and safe environment that you will be excited about for years to come.

  • Alternatively, if you have your own contractor then we can work with them to realize your dreams.

  • We order, track, receive, inspect, and deliver/oversee all product to site.

  • We liaise with our trades to maintain our high standards and integrity of the project, ensuring that all the materials selected are installed as we have designed.

  • We regularly do site visits and keep you up to date on the progress.  We provide timeline documents where required.

  • Once the construction and installation of all products has been completed, we will do a final walkthrough with you to review the project, and any items that may arise at this stage will be addressed in a timely manner.


Final styling/staging

  • We provide decorating services, outside the scope of work for the project.  We can source, deliver, and install furniture, window treatments, soft goods (bedding etc.), rugs, accessories, and artwork.  This will be discussed earlier in the design process, but its always best to set aside a budget for this phase, as it’s the finishing touches that make all the difference.
